Whether we’re aware of it or not, we create data everywhere we go. Data generation is expected to grow continuously, with information becoming more sensitive, and subsequently has more concerns raised about its privacy. The introduction of the GDPR represents the biggest reform to data protection laws in generations. It’s been widely discussed in the media and was expected to largely impact how our personal data is collected and stored, giving us back some control over our data. Since its implementation about a year ago, which aspects have been shown to be successful, and which so far have failed? Is the GDPR sufficient for citizens to regain control over their data and ensure their privacy? What further steps can be taken to ensure a citizen’s privacy while embracing a data-driven economy?
